raising hatchlings: The rest of March

So, I've already told you all the wonderful happenings of Miranda in March, now it's time for the rest of the family:)

Nathan

At the beginning of the month Nathan competed in the school Math Bowl competition. It's pretty intense actually....12 kids up on stage with jeopardy type buzzers getting asked really hard math questions. He didn't place, but had fun anyway.

Nathan also participated in the 4th grade program. It was nearly impossible to get a good photo of him with Matt's iphone. He was a sign holder in the Utah Counties song. Their program was all about the great state of Utah from rocks and dinosaurs to indians, pioneers, and the Olympics.

In March Nathan also participated in the Pinewood Derby. Matt, the cubmaster, happens to be be very thankful this was his LAST pinewood derby car to help make. Nathan's car is in slot #1--just because his car was #1 not because he took first. They had a fun night even if Nathan didn't place:)

Tyler

March marked the reward for many hours of effort for Tyler. For three nights he performed in Eastmont Middle School's production of Annie. These kids had auditions in October and had been practicing since November. They put on a great show. There were some pretty amazing singers. The girl that played Annie already has a pretty amazing voice. Tyler was Mr. Bundles--the laundry man that delivers clean laundry to the orphanage and flirts with Ms. Flanagan. He was also a "New Yorker" in the city scenes. I think he had a great time and he did an amazing job. Way to go Tyler!

Easter

Easter this year came at the very end of Spring Break. The Spring Break in which we did nothing much--that was planned anyway. We slept in, played catch up on house cleaning (well I did) and in general we were just lazy. We didn't go play much because our spring trip came the following week...but I'll talk about that in the April post:) Anyhow, back to Easter. Two days before Easter was Grandma Greats 91st birthday. To celebrate the event we gathered together the Ron Hatch grandchildren and put on a performance at her retirement home Saturday afternoon. The kids actually had gotten together to practice several times. With the talented singers, musicians, and Grandma Greats list of favorite "cowboy" songs it turned out to be a pretty wonderful performance. Nathan sang a solo in "Home on the Range".

What I love about that last picture is that if you look at it full size (just click on it) you can see the tear in Grandma's eye. I think she loved the tribute paid to her by some wonderful great grandchildren. They really do love her so!

After serving birthday cake to the residents we went over to Grandma and Grandpa Hatch's house for our annual Hatch Family Easter Egg Hunt. Oh goodness...eggs GALORE! There were SO many eggs to hide. The older cousins had fun "hiding" the eggs and all the younger ones had fun finding them. Lucky for us it was a beautiful day and grandma and grandpa's backyard made a for a perfect place to hunt eggs.
