Layers of Sand

Camping on the beach+wind=layers of sand....on everything! This weekend Matt took a few days off work and we went to Yuba Lake with the Foster and Middlemiss families. We are so lucky to have friends with a boat. The kids LOVE boating. It is always such a great experience. Matt was able to water ski and the rest of us enjoyed the tubes and knee boards. Although I quickly realized how much of my tummy muscles I lost earlier this year. Jacob even felt what it would be like to fly:)

We were able to camp right next to the beach. The Fosters, who arrived Wednesday, were able to get us a good camping site--the only site with trees. They had a pop up trailer while the rest of us had tents. We were so glad they had a trailer. We ended up needing it more than a few times. Minutes after we arrived on Thursday, it started raining. Luckily, it didn't rain too long and we were out on the boat before dinner time. We even had time for roasting s'mores and dutch oven peach cobbler:)
Friday there was a bit of wind, but we were able to get out on the boat several times. The kids had a grand time playing on the beach while they waited for their time on the boat. Later in the evening the wind picked up quite a bit. It even knocked down part of our tent. We were lucky to have the tent in the trees--the trees helped it stay up. Luckily, the wind didn't prevent us from having a great dinner and yummy s'mores again---mango salsa and homemade guacamole-YUM-O! Before we went to bed we had to dust a layer (or two) of fine beach sand off of our bedding that the wind had blown in.

Saturday a small group got up early and did water skiing. After they came back, the little kids went one more time and then they took the big kids over to do cliff jumping.
Before they had time to fully enjoy the cliffs a huge wind storm hit. They had a rough ride back to our beach. Those of us back at camp took shelter in the trailer until we had to go and save the tubes form flying away. Everything turned crazy for quite awhile. There was sand blowing everywhere. We had to help beach a boat next to us that had pulled out of anchor. Another boat down the beach had been swamped.

It took a few hours for it to calm down enough for us to load up and go. By then, there were LAYERS of sand on everything and everyone. It felt great to come home and take long cleansing showers. So, aside from the layers of sand, we had a great weekend. I love hanging out with friends and making fun memories. This memory is a keeper:)

Your blog is so cute! I love that quote by Sis. Hinckley...it's funny because last month when Barbara taught the RS lesson she read that quote and I thought I wanted a copy of it. Now I have it. Thanks!
