Let the fun begin!

Summer is finally here!!!!! We have already started to play.  this year, summer started off with Matt and I  ditching the kids and hanging out in San Diego for 6 days.  What fun we had!  It's amazing how enjoyable a 12 hour car ride can be without kids:)

Day 1: Kayaking on the ocean -exploring sea caves:  We had a lot of fun kayaking.  I took some photos with a water camera...I have to develop the photos first, but our tour guide Dave took this photo of us coming back to shore...oh yes, we went under. Riding the waves to shore in a kayak isn't as easy as it looks:) The silly part of the morning was, we forgot sunscreen--ya my legs got fried.  Good way to start the trip off eh...
After getting cleaned up, we went through a few museums in Balboa Park and had a yum-o dinner at a mexican cantina in Old Town.
After dinner we looked through some gift shops and I ran into one of my fellow teachers Sherri! It was SO fun to run into her.  Yes, I'm that lucky:)
Day 2: Catalina Island- after a few schedule changes, we took an hour ferry ride to Catalina Island for the day.  It's a beautiful place.  We had fun walking around the town of Avalon.
We hiked up to the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Gardens.  It was a beautiful view from up top.  We found it interesting that it was chilly at the beach, but very hot up in the hills.  Thank goodness we dressed in layers:)

Day 3: We relaxed.  We visited the beautiful San Diego temple and spent time hanging out at Mission Beach

Day 4: We had planned to go on a whale watching tour on a large sailboat, but that got cancelled because they didn't have enough people signed up.  Bummer, but we still ended up having a good day.  We started the day off with a tour of the U.S.S. Midway.  What an amazing ship! It is crazy huge! Over two hours and we still didn't see it all! We then visited the Mormon Battalion Monument and spent some more time in Old Town.  We ended the night by having an amazing dinner at a steak and seafood restaurant in Seaport Village topped off with strolling around the shops and eating Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

All in all it was a VERY refreshing trip filled with good food, amazing sights, and lots of relaxing....a GREAT way to celebrate our 20th anniversary. Thank you to our family and friends who took care of our chickens while we were gone.  It was so nice not to worry about them while we were recuperating and it sounds like they all had a great time with out us:)

So now, on to all the rest of the fun we have planned this summer!
