At the beginning of the month we moved Miranda from the apartment she was living in in Sandy back to our basement. This move was difficult because now she had some real furniture. Dina saved the day by coming to help. It took all of us, but we finally managed to squeeze Miranda's queen mattress into the back of her Pilot. Then just weeks later we had to do it all again (again with Dina's help), but this time we moved her to a beautiful new town home in Lehi. She is living there with Sarah and three other girls. This is where she plans to stay while she in in law school. We were so busy during the move that I forgot to take photos until near the end. The truck and Dina's car were both filled to the brim.
She got everything unpacked and set up so quickly and her room looks great. She sent us a video of it, but I can't get it to upload. Oh well, here is a photo of her desk.
Now she's just spending tons of money on law books and getting cute hair cuts getting all ready for law school to start.
The first week of August Tyler had a "friend reunion" at our house. Seven young adults hanging in our basement from about 6 pm on Friday to 6 pm on Sunday. It was great having them here. Friday night I fed them dinner and they just played games downstairs. Saturday morning I made a waffle bar for them before they headed out to Thanksgiving Point Dino museum, ice skating, and more food. Their plan for Saturday night-going up the canyon for a camp fire and D&D got thwarted by a big rainstorm so they decided to get creative...
Yep, they made a fort in the basement...complete with twinkle lights. They played their games in it and even slept in it...a pretty normal activity for 21 year olds ..right? It was a great weekend. We were so happy to have them hang out at our home.
Citrus Pear:
A week before school started I got together with my Summit teacher friends and two of my besties for a Citrus Pear event. This was my second time doing this but having all my friends there made it so much more fun! We each put together 20 meals in under 2 hours! Filling up my freezer full of easy to make meals was a great way to get prepared for the new school year!
Back to School Family Night:
The Thursday before school started we had our back to school family night. Yes random day, but it was the only day we could fit it in with before everyone started school. We started with going to dinner at Bonsai a Japanese Steakhouse. YUM-O!
Then we went and played mini-golf at Mulligans. It was fun to spend the night hanging out together as a family although we sure did miss Jacob.
Matt was the clear winner of the evening :)
First Day of School:
This year everyone started school on a different day. With my new job as an instructional coach and the LEA Literacy coordinator I officially went back to work on August 1st. I didn't take a photo. On Summit's first day with students I wore my traditional white skit and green/white stripped shirt--the same outfit I've worn on the first day of school for 8 years now...even though it was such a different first day of school. So weird not having students. I did training for the new instructors...just another regular work day.
Nathan started his junior year at Herriman High School on August 19th. He was excited to drive on his own to school even if it does mean leaving at 6:55 in the morning.
Miranda Started BYU Law School on August 21st. We didn't get to see her, but she did send us this cute first day of school photo. She looks the part :)
Tyler started his second to last semester at Utah State University on August 26th. No photo from him.
Jacob and Matt didn't have first days...they just had normal go to work days...no photos for them.
So most of August has been spent enjoying the last dregs of summer and prepping to get the new school year off to a great start. Nathan finally finished the painting he started at the beginning of last summer. Sadly this summer we were gone so much we were only able to go to art a few times. His painting is pretty amazing.
After bringing this one home, he decided to redo the walls in his bedroom. He kind of made one wall his art corner with all of his latest works of art. This kid has talent!
