Whistling

You know those stupid little rules that most houses have. The ones that are made up just for that house. Not the ones that everybody has like "no throwing balls in the house" or "eat only in the kitchen area." I'm thinking of the ones that are made specifically for your house. Specifically because of the things in the house or the people in the house. We have a few of those silly rules. We have a rule that you are not allowed to whistle at the kitchen table. We have another rule that you cannot whistle in the car. So, why do we have these rules? We have those rules because we happen to have a child who whistles during all his awake hours--maybe he even does it in his sleep. His favorite thing to whistle is Christmas songs---even if it's July. Most of us have gotten to the point where we don't even pay attention to it any more. He, of course, does it all subconsciously. Well, last week the whistling stopped and pain took over. I know when Jacob started to feel better in the hospital because the whistling picked up again. Now that he is home (he came home Thursday) I have been happy to hear the whistling. I missed it. He is recovering well. He will have a big scar--something I know he will get mileage out of when swimming season starts again. Hopefully he will start going back to school sometime this next week..although it will take him about 6 weeks to fully recover.

He missed a lot of things while he was in the hospital. Adam (his best friend) had his 16th birthday party on Tuesday night. Jacob didn't get to go, but they did make it part of the party to come and see him. He was quite happy about that. Even his nice grandma came and let him borrow her new Ipod Touch. That helped pass many hours. Well, now he's home and in minimal if no pain and just thinking about attacking all that make-up work he has for school----which isn't too fun.

It's good to see that he's getting better. The hospital is not a cool place to hang out.

What a sweet post. I bet you felt very happy to hear that whistling. (We have a no whistling in the car rule too. Also, no movie quotes at the table, because then everyone just starts talking like Darth Vadar or something and no actually talks about their day.) I am so happy Jacob is doing well. Hopefully this is all taken care of and will never bother him again!

Despite my aversion to whistling (the no whistling rules are my invention), it was great to hear Jacob back to his old self.
