Matt-In January he will be starting his 13th year with Carollo Engineers. It’s a job, and they treat us well, but he does wish he could just be a trail guide. He still runs, although with all the other crazy things going on in our life, his running time has taken a hit. It hasn’t been the year to run a sub 3 hour marathon. He still loves the mountains just as he always has. Hiking and trail running are his happy spots. He was able to go on many hikes this year. He took Tyler to the top of Timp again. He took the boys on a three day backpacking adventure this summer too. Matt finally got released from his calling as Ward Clerk only to be called as Cub Master. Nathan is happy:)
Me- Well, I’m doing just fine. I’m in my second year teaching first grade at Summit Academy and loving it. I teach part time (8:45-1pm), only teaching math and LA. Some days I am very sad to leave at 1—all the creative fun stuff happens after I leave—but there are other days when I am thankful to leave at 1. I still do a lot of scrapbooking—although not as much as should on my own. Professional scrapbooking is an easy way for me to make a little extra money:) I am still serving as Primary President. Luckily for me I have an amazing presidency. There’s no way I could have handled all our crazy stuff and stayed president without them.
Jacob-Well he got talked a lot about in the previous update. He has had a big year. He graduated from Jordan High in June at the top of his class. It was a happy day. He went to BYU this fall and has been living in Heritage Halls. He lucked out and got some great roommates and has been living life to the fullest. He decided to take a break from music to explore his talent in art. As it turns out, he’s got quite a knack for that too. I can’t wait to do a post about at the cool things he’s made for his Freshman Industrial Design classes. Jacob’s big news of late though is his mission call to Albuquerque, NM--lots of preparation and buying going on for that. He reports to the MTC on January 11th.
Miranda-Has had the craziest year of all. You will have to look back at previous blog entries to find out all about it. It’s just too much to go over here. She is recovering though. She can now walk around in the kitchen without her crutches. She is planning on being crutch free by Jan 2nd—at least for school. It looks like she will be on antibiotics for, at least, the next six months:( Aside from all her medical woes, Miranda is doing well. She is s junior at Jordan High School. Being the typical over achiever, she is still excelling in her 4 AP classes. She is in the school’s Chamber Choir. They will be singing the back-up vocals for the Nutcracker downtown this week. She is still quite obsessed with BYU sports. The best days are the days BYU wins:)
Tyler-Now for my youngest two, they have just been going with the flow this year--happy to be flying a bit under the radar. Tyler is an 8th grader at Eastmont Middle this year and is gearing up to celebrating his 14th birthday this weekend. Tyler continues to be our comic relief- ready with some witty comment right off the cuff. He is currently in 3 bands and will add a 4th after the new year. He plays the tenor sax in his school’s concert band and jazz 2 band (after the new year he will also be in Jazz 1) and he plays clarinet in the Canyons Symphony Orchestra (a district wide audition orchestra). He also has a part in the school musical, “Fiddler on the Roof”. They will be performing it in February, but they have already put many hours into it. Tyler is happiest when he’s playing video games with friends and has been greatly blessed by the good friends that surround him.
Nathan-is probably my busiest kid. He’s come to find out that the rumors of 3rd grade being the hardest at Summit Academy are true. There is always some book report, project, or poem to memorize on the horizon on top of the 3-4 pages of homework nightly. When we add in his art class, piano lessons and practice, and cub scouts—oh and soccer when it’s warm out, he is not left with as much time as he would like for Legos, playing on the computer, or friends. He has found his true calling in life-Opera singing….just don’t tell him the bathroom doors are not sound proof..it will take away all our amusement:)
And that’s about it. We are not busy at all..... Oh, and we still have two cute and crazy cats that I so love and Matt tolerates. Life is crazy. Life is good and sometimes hard, but we keep the faith and keep taking just one step more…one step more.

You HAVE had a crazy year!! Hopefully this coming year will be a bit easier for you (& your family). Glad to hear Miranda is on the mend. And Congrats to Jacob on his mission call. Where does the time go? Our kids grow up too fast. Always fun to read your blog & catch up on all you are doing. :)
