Muddy Memories

So this year Memorial Day weekend turned out to be quite rainy, but we still had a lot of fun. We spent Friday and Saturday up in Bear Lake with the Walter family. We had a great time. Gwen's parents built a new cabin last summer/fall and that's where we got to stay. It is a beautiful cabin. We did a lot of 4-wheeling as it was too cold to go in the water. You know, it's fairly therapeutic driving a 4-wheeler through a big mud puddle. We all made a mess--sorry Steve, but it was fun. Along with getting muddy we were able to introduce the teenagers to the wonderful movie "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels", play games, eat Bear Lake raspberry shakes and lots of other yummy food, and, best of all, get away from that nagging list of to-do's (at least for a few days). It was my first time up there without Gwen and that made it a little hard. It's a place I know she loved a lot. The kids were quite sad to have to leave on Saturday night. They could have stayed up there for a long time. We are so thankful to have such great neighbors!
On Sunday Alice (Matt's youngest sister) had her mission farewell. She'll be leaving for Chile--well the MTC--in a few weeks. Crazy!! Then finally on Monday we got a couple of those to-do's taken off the list before we went and played at Matt's brother's house. All in all a great weekend. And now the kids begin their last full week of school. The last of the real work. They are quite ready for summer to begin--and so am I. I am ready for some slow, sleeping in mornings.
I dropped my camera and you now have to manually open the shutter. Sometimes we forget and get photos like this. When Jacob saw it he said, "Mom look, I'm pushing out the darkness because I like living in the light."

Nathan wasn't feeling so well when we first got to Bear Lake, but he was doing better by Saturday afternoon and still got some time on the 4-wheelers. Here he is riding with Steve.

Looks so fun! What's with the rain here...and everywhere? Wish it would stop! Today was beautiful - of course, the day we all have to go back to work and school!:) Glad you got to get away!
