The joy of trail running

For those of you who don't know, My husband Matt derives great pleasure form running up and down mountains. It's been one of his greatest pleasures in moving back to Utah. Mystifyingly he claims running to the top of Mt. Timpanogous (sp?) (not just to the caves, but to the very top) a great Saturday morning run. Now as some of you know crazy trail runners like him have a point system that they use to rate their different runs. You get points for how muddy you can get, running over snow patches, drawing blood, breaking bones, etc. The higher the points the better the run. Well, on the 4th of July Matt ran to Maybird lakes which is just above Red and White Pine lakes in Little Cottonwood Canyon. On his way back down he fell, did a somersault or two, gouged his leg and hurt his wrist. No big deal, just brownie points. He came home pretty pleased. Well, his wrist never stopped hurting. It still bothered him while we were in ABQ. So, when we got home he had it x-rayed. Sure enough, he broke one of those small bones in the wrist. Now he has to wear a cast for at least 3 weeks. It's official. That's the highest point run he's had. He doesn't look too bothered by it yet does he?

Aha! Well at least he started out happy about it--too bad it's turning into a big long thing. Seriously though, Matt--you've kind of been tempting fate for quite a while, haven't you? :)

That's true, Angela, but a broken wrist is still better than being eaten by a mountain lion.
